The standard establishes a procedure for evaluating rust undercutting on scribed coated steel test coupons tested in accelerated and natural exposures. It describes data collection, analysis, and reporting requirements. The standard can be used by coating manufacturers, coating testing laboratories and owners who perform in-house performance testing to evaluate multi-coat systems consisting of most types of protective coatings for use on steel. It is not suitable for coating types such as thermal sprayed metals and ceramics, hot-dip and electro-coated metals, and tapes.
